More Information
Sevendust seem to have the ideal primary ingredients for winning any metal lover's heart: aggressive, jagged-edged guitars churning out choppy heavy metal riffs, thunderous bass seething beneath growled, angry vocals and walloping drums that grind like a ten-year-old blender. But, Sevendust is more than brutal riffs and crushing authority as displayed in their live shows. The band is also known for their innovative sound that has successfully merged into the evolving music scene.
Sevendust formed in late 1994 under the name “Crawlspace” but later were forced to change their name when a group from the West Coast claimed rights to it. They struggled to find a new title but finally settled on Sevendust after bassist Vinnie Hornsby was looking through his grandmother’s garage and found a can of plant pesticide called “Sevindust. ” Vocalist Lajon Witherspoon’s take on the name is that seven is a holy number and we are all made of dust. Their name has also been associated with the computer virus with the same name.
Sevendust recently finished up the recording of a new album in Chicago with producer Johnny K, who has produced other successful rock acts such as Disturbed, Staind, Finger Eleven, and 3 Doors Down. The band has launched a newly designed website promoting the new album. After a short break the band will be hitting the road in early 2010. The first single of the album will be released in late January.
Joining Sevendust will be Drowning Pool. When a band rocks as hard as Drowning Pool, when the music demands to be heard at maximum volume, and when the energy level surpasses the word intense, there's only so much that a recording studio can capture. The solution: release a live album, the aptly titled Loudest Common Denominator, a limited edition treat for the loyal and growing fan base culled from time on the road and the radio.
It's all there on Loudest Common Denominator, as Luce, vocalist Ryan McCombs, guitarist C.J. Pierce and bassist Stevie Benton give their all. "It's not 45 minutes or an hour deadlocked without deviating," says the drummer about Drowning Pool in concert. "Some bands are in that world, but this is live ? the camaraderie between us, involving the crowd, the impromptu breakdowns in the songs and winging it on the fly. We don't just run through the songs and get the hell out. We live for that hour onstage and that's why we take it so personally. You can't capture that in the studio."
Don't miss Sevendust with special guests Drowning Pool at The Cotillion on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
